I am a PhD student who was working in the SystemsX.ch-funded MicroScapeX project.  I am highly interested in understanding adaption and survival mechanisms deployed by bacteria when introduced exogenously into polluted soils. In particular I am studying the genome-wide transcriptome changes of bacteria upon immediate contact to and growth in polluted soil. For this I am using the aromatic solvents-degrading bacterium Pseudomonas veronii 1YdBTEX2. In order to better understand observed genome-wide transcriptional changes, I am using a transposon library of P. veronii to screen for essential survival and colonization functions in (polluted) soil. Finally, I am interested to study the response of resident soil microbial communities to the invasion of the introduced bacteria by analyzing their meta-transcriptomes.
